12/11/2019 – 12/11/2019

After our annual general meeting Dr Culum Brown will talk about fish intelligence.

Fish are exploited by humans for food from wild stocks and intensive aquaculture as well as being a popular pet. Do we know how intelligent they are? Should we be treating them with the same level of compassion as warm-blooded vertebrates?

Dr Culum Brown is a professor at the School of Biological Sciences at Macquarie University. His main field of study is the behavioural ecology of fishes with a special interest in learning and memory.

Creating Healthy Attachments – Seminar for Parents

Creating Healthy Attachments – Seminar for Parents

17/04/2019 – 17/04/2019

Creating Healthy Attachments – Wednesday 17th April – 6.30 – 8.30pm

A major component of creating positive relationships with others (family, carers, school educators friends etc) is the ability to form healthy attachments. The more secure the child, the more likely they will have the self-esteem and confidence to come to you, as their parent or carer when they’re in need. In this seminar we will explore secure and insecure attachments – and what you can do to create a healthy circle of security for your child.

This is the first seminar in a three part ‘Empowered Parenting’ seminar series which is open to parents of children currently enrolled at Future Stars as well as parents and carers living within our community. Participants can choose to attend one of the seminars – or all three. Links to purchase tickets are below.

Bobbin Head Cycle Classic

Bobbin Head Cycle Classic

24/03/2019 – 24/03/2019

Bobbin Head Cycle Classic (the “Bobbo”) is a charity event organised by various local Rotary clubs to raise money for those in need, it is now in it’s 8th year.

There are 2 parts to the ride – the registration fees and the fundraising by the riders. Although fundraising isn’t a criteria of the ride, we’d love it if everyone asked friends, family, colleagues, and so on to support your ride. Remember, all money contributed (over $2) is fully tax-deductible.The majority of the ride fees covers the essential physical costs we have to conduct a ride of this size. There are permits, licenses, signage, marketing and other related expenses. Note that everyone supporting the Bobbo is a volunteer – no one gets paid. Then, the balance of the ride fees, and all of the fundraising goes directly to our Charities which include Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury, Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter, KYDS Youth Development Service, Cromehurst Foundation and Hornsby Connect.
