The Eye Piece – More than just an optometrist!

The Eye Piece is a family owned and operated boutique Optometrist located in leafy Wahroonga village operated by Paul Lee and Taeyon Kim. In November of 2017 the practice underwent renovations to become the welcoming, luxury boutique it is today. With a passion for eye health and customer satisfaction the team at The Eye Piece go above and beyond the standard expected service and pride themselves on a thorough consultation process, taking into consideration lifestyle and cosmetic needs to ensure the perfect result.

Bulk Billed Eye Screening & Eye Health Checks

The bulk billed eye screening and eye health checks are an important part of day to day business at The Eye Piece – and appointments can be made online, via phone or by popping into the store. However, the display and range of unique frames from global brands (some of which are not available anywhere else on the North Shore) are what really sets this boutique apart from others.

High Quality Frames

Hand selecting every frame from a range of suppliers globally, The Eye Piece has a collection of high quality and fashionable frames catering to all ages and budgets. You will even find precious 18 Karat Gold frames if that’s what you’re after.

On Premise Lens Fitting

All lenses are edged and fitted onsite saving precious turnaround time.  And on collection, customers experience a personalised fitting and adjustment service – and receive a complimentary cleaning pack to take home.

Commitment to Eye Health

Their commitment to eye health stretches beyond the walls of The Eye Piece with management and staff involved in a range of not-for-profit organisations such as Lions Recycle for Sight and World Sight Day. The Eye Piece have been donating $2 from every pair of glasses sold during October directly to Optometry Giving Sight which is a global fundraising initiative that specifically targets the prevention of blindness and impaired vision due to uncorrected refractive error.

Donations help to:

  • Train – local eye care professionals
  • Establish – optometry schools and vision centres for sustainability
  • Deliver – eye care and low-cost glasses.

A Fine Community Focused Business

It’s not often you hear stories of a Police officer stepping away from duty to start a full-time profession as a photographer. For Nicholas Fiennes, it was an award winning decision.

It’s 10 years since Nick followed his passion for photography with the opening of his studio ‘Fine-Photography’ in Pymble. What started as an interest in documenting the various personalities, connections and emotions within families has grown to become so much more.

Fine-Photography with Nick behind the lens, has become a prominent fixture in the Ku-ring-gai community through his work with multiple community charities and organisations.

“After a previous life working in and around local communities, I felt a real sense of need to continue this when I changed career paths.” comments Nick.

Nick is often seen proudly capturing every moment at fundraising events for local organisations such as KYDS and Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter, along with many local sporting groups. Donating his time to the community is something Nick feels very passionate about and feels privileged to have the skills and resources to make a difference.

“Photography is a magical thing. It has the power to transport us to other times and places, to take us on a visual journey. Most powerfully of all, photography has the power to connect us to other human beings.” Nick explains.

We recently had the great pleasure of working with Nick as part of our Ku-ring-gai edition of Monopoly Photography Competition. Nick assisted with the tough job of judging the entries to find the winning images for our game board. After wading through the many images submitted by talented young photographers Nick provided constructive advice to our finalists and awarded a winner.

We’re grateful Nicholas Fiennes made the career change!

We’re travelling through time with Studio ARTES

From the moment the invitation arrived we knew this Ball would be like no other.

The invitation, designed by celebrated artist Nadia Lolas (a member of Studio ARTES), sets the scene for the upcoming ‘Travel through Time’ event, which will showcase the incredible talents of the members of Studio ARTES

Nadia has worked as an artist in residence at Historic Houses Trust, Erth Visual and Physical, Gaffa Gallery and The Paper Mill. In 2016 she undertook a mentorship with esteemed painter, Laura Jones, resulting in a three-panel triptych collaborative painting titled ‘The Secret Garden’. This painting now hangs in ING Direct in Sydney’s CBD. Nadia is one of many incredible artists from Studio ARTES – click through to see some of their wonderful work.

Back to the Ball… (or should I say Future!)

On Friday 28th of September approximately 350 members, staff, family and friends of Studio ARTES will come together to celebrate the 18th Annual Studio ARTES Ball which will be held at Hornsby RSL Showroom.

The event itself was started 18 years ago as a celebration of the Studio ARTES community. Eighteen years on, whilst still a celebration for family, friends and staff – you could almost describe the Annual Ball as a full-scale theatrical production – with original numbers from the music group, dance performances taking you through the decades and drama performances making you laugh so hard your sides hurt. This Annual Ball will feature full costumes, set designs and a production crew – it is not to be missed!

The team from Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank branches are thrilled to be able to sponsor this very special event for 2018. We’re looking forward to enjoying ourselves at the Ball, and will report back with more details about all the fun that was had in an upcoming community newsletter.

If you’d like to support Studio ARTES and attend the ball – you can book tickets here.

We look forward to seeing you there!
