What is your role at TLCBB

I’m an MRM – or Mobile Relationship Manager.

As a mobile lender my job is to make the process of refinancing or setting up new mortgages as convenient as possible. I do this by meeting with customers wherever they are – at home, in their office, in our bank or even at the coffee shop, at times that are convenient to them.  I am available either by phone or email at any time, and help customers to prepare their documentation, pick up and deliver documents for signature – and generally try to make the whole process of setting up loans as convenient as possible. Why go to the bank, when we can come to you!

An Artistic Venture

Joe Bollen has been actively involved with Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank branches since we first opened our Turramurra branch 15 years ago. Initially Joe was a foundation shareholder, then Director on the Board of the Bank from 2005 – 2008, and now an Ambassador for the Community Bank.  We spoke with Joe about his business ‘My Framer’, his passion for art – and the community.

Joe – tell us about your business ‘My Framer’?

My Framer is a one-stop shop for Visual Communications in the form of Art, Design, Flags, Signs, Banners, Restoration and Installation.

I’ve lived and worked in Turramurra for over 33 years and have owned and run ‘My Framer’ for 16 years from the same Turramurra location.

As an artist the first person to get paid is the Framer and Stretcher and since I need these things as an artist I decided to do it all myself – so I set up the business!

I do everything because it is a creative endeavour. I’m a creative person, and express this as an Artist, Designer, Vexillographer (flag designer / consultant) and Framer.

I was the Corporate Designer for 12 years for the Transfield group of companies and have designed over 100 corporate identities.  I have also created the official flags of Greater Sydney and The Australian Republican Movement to name a few, as well as being a consultant to the IOC and Flag Manager for the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

I believe you recently had an incredible experience as an artist in residence at Chateau d’Orquevaux in France?

Yes, my work was discovered by the Chateau through my Instagram account and I was successfully selected from artists all around the world to attend a 2-week residency in the Chateau d’Orquevaux in the Champagne Ardenne region of France. I also won a $1200 grant towards my time in France. It was an experience to remember and visually inspiring, and I hope to do an exhibition of my time there in the near future.

Where can readers see your work?

For the time being it’s best to visit my Instagram account @joebollenartist

Why are you such a passionate advocate for the local community bank?

I have been involved with the Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank branches since the very beginning. Community means a lot to me and I’ve seen first hand the difference that Bendigo Bank make to our community.

Bendigo Bank – The Third Most Trusted Brand in Australia

Bendigo Bank – The Third Most Trusted Brand in Australia.

Building a trusted brand is important in any industry and market.

Important drivers of trust include reliability, customer focus, knowledgeable staff, ease of contact and previous good experiences with the company.

When the most recent Net Trust Score (NTS) results were published by Roy Morgan – naming Bendigo Bank as the third most trusted brand in Australia, we were rightfully very proud.

We work extremely hard to represent our philosophy and vision of being the ‘community’s bank’, our staff and management take great pride in knowing their customers, understanding their needs and being available to answer questions and offer advice at any time.

Thank you Australia for recognising our hard work to build your trust.

*For this survey, approximately 4,000 Australians, recruited from the Roy Morgan Single Source database, were asked which brands they trust and distrust between October 2017 and April 2018. Roy Morgan then took the trust score of each nominated brand and subtracted the distrust score. The result is a Net Trust Score (NTS).

Now that’s something to sing and dance about!

Marian Street Theatre for Young People (MSTYP) is one of the oldest continually running children’s theatre and drama schools in Australia. For over 50 years it has been a unique part of Sydney’s North Shore Ku-ring-gai community. This month was one worth celebrating for MSTYP with both the opening of their show Pearlie in the Park, and the approval plans to bring back the much loved Marian Street theatre space that was closed back in 2001.

At the June Council meeting the Ku-ring-gai council voted in favour of saving the Marian Street Theatre and agreed to support a multi-million dollar re-build of a new Marian Street Theatre culture centre, which will showcase three performance spaces, and a continued emphasis on performances by and for young people.

The Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank branches have been staunch supporters of the ‘Save Marian Street Theatre’ petition for many years, and are thrilled with the council’s decision to bring back the cultural home of the Marian Street Theatre to the North Shore community.

We were also excited to sponsor one of the major performances for the MSTYP in 2018 –

‘Pearlie in the Park” – which opened on the 7th of July and runs till the 21st July.

Written by Australia’s favourite comedian, radio commentator and children’s author – Wendy Harmer, the delightfully funny, urban fairy-tale tells the story of a fairy named Pearlie who lives in Jubilee Park. The production is slick, the set design bright and engaging and the magical music under the eye of acclaimed composer Phillip Scott has the audience bopping in their seats. The story moves along at a great pace keeping some of the younger audience transfixed, with a gag or two thrown in for the adults to get a good laugh too. The stand out of the show is the performance of the young cast, who grace the stage with a maturity and experience beyond their years.

Pearlie in the Park will be seen by approximately 3,000 children and their parents during it’s season, many of whom this will be their first experience with a live show.

If you don’t get the chance to see Pearlie in the Park – be sure to check out the upcoming performances by the MSTYP, I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

Lawyers on the Northshore

We recently dropped in to visit one of our favourite ‘go-to’ local businesses in Lindfield, and noticed that they’d undergone a branding make-over with a new name, and logo.

PW Lawyers on the North Shore

PW Lawyers – formally Procter and Willaws Solicitors, Notaries & Estate Planners have been serving families and businesses under the direction of Principal Solicitor John Butefield, and more recently Andrew Roshfield, for over 20 years. While John has taken a step-back, he is still a vital member of the impressive legal team, and in passing the baton to Andrew who has been at the law firm for over 6 years, there is certain to be continuity in the quality of legal advice you can expect.

Specialising in Estate Planning, Wills, Probate, Family Law and Conveyancing the team from PW Lawyers often find themselves working across several generations of the same family, with business relationships that date back 20 years.  The quality of their legal team is impressive – and, fortunately for us, they’re also lovely people. Recently they have come on board as one of our sponsors for the upcoming Ku-ring-gai Edition of Monopoly – that will directly benefit a range of charities in our local community.

Next time you are in need of the services of a solicitor, contact the team at PW Lawyers for professional and personal legal advice you can genuinely trust.

Community Grants Program – 2018

On May 15 our 2018 Community Grants Program was finalised with a presentation evening held at our Lindfield branch.  We are proud to have been able to present nine incredible community organisations with grants totalling $35,670.  This year our selection process was particularly challenging with over 35 worthy groups applying for a community grant.

The Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank Branches (TLCBB) have, to date, given away more than $385,000 to various community groups and not-for profit organisations as part of our Community Grants initiative.

Reflecting on the impact that this successful program has made since its inception 10 years ago – we took a closer look at two of this year’s recipients and how they plan to utilise the community grant awarded to them.

MUM FOR MUM NCJWA

The Mum for Mum – National Council of Jewish Women of Australia (NCJWA) was awarded a $5000 grant to assist in the training of volunteers.

Mum for Mum NCJWA is a confidential, non-denominational home-visiting program where trained volunteers, who are mothers themselves visit mentally vulnerable and isolated mothers once a week during the last trimester of their pregnancy, and for the first year of their baby’s life, in order to provide emotional support.

With changes in people’s living circumstances, many new mothers today are not living in close proximity to their families or the support networks that they grew up with. MUM FOR MUM aims to relieve isolation and reduce anxiety and depression, by creating a safe and caring space for mums to delight in their babies and develop secure attachment.

It costs $1400 a year to support each new mum in the Mum for Mum NCJWA program, with the organisation relying on donations and sponsorship to keep the program running. Programs such the Community Grants Program run by Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank branches play an important role in the success of Mum for Mum NCJWA, and we were thrilled to award a $5000 grant to assist in the training of new volunteers.

“I think it’s very inspiring that Bendigo Bank is so attuned to the local community and that they give so much back through their community grants which has a real impact on families in the community” commented Lyn Brand of Mum for Mum NCJWA.

Referrals to Mum for Mum come from Tresilian, the Family Referral Service, the Northern Centre, Catholicare, Gidget house, as well as from hospital social work teams and local GP’s – although a referral is not necessary.

If you know an expectant mother who could do with some emotional support throughout her 3rd trimester and into the first year of her child’s life – don’t hesitate to contact the beautiful team at Mum for Mum NCJWA on 9363 0257

Or drop them an email: nadene@mumformum.org.au

ROTARY CLUB OF WAHROONGA

Also focusing on the changing demographic needs of our community is the Rotary Club of Wahroonga, who applied for a TLCBB community grant to help fund an important project at the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai PCYC.

With many young families moving into high-rise apartments in the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai area, there is a growing need for community spaces that support the needs of young families.

Wahroonga Rotary has provided substantial financial support to the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai PCYC over many years, which has included various fundraisers, annual dinners and donations for the police officers connected to the PCYC who work with troubled youth. So when the Wahroonga Rotary Board approved a commitment of $40,000 late last year for the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai PCYC, it was all hands on deck to raise funds again.

The Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank branches were pleased to be able to contribute $4,000 to this fantastic initiative. And, along with other contributors including a federal funding grant, and the support of other local Rotary Clubs such as Turramurra, St Ives, Ku-ring-gai, Carlingford, Lindfield, Berowra, West Pennant Hills & Cherrybrook the new fit-out of the Youth Hub at the PCYC Hornsby Ku-ring-gai was undertaken and the revamped centre opened on Sunday 27th May.

“We thank Bendigo Bank for its contribution, and for its wonderful charitable work in the community.” Commented Sue Own – President of the Rotary Club of Wahroonga

Hornsby Ku-ring-gai PCYC – A Community Hub

The new PCYC has become a real community hub, especially for young mums with bubs and small children living in the surrounding area. With the District Nurse now operating out of the PCYC and the inclusion of a safe, contained soft play area, cubby house and full-service café – the PCYC has become a place for mums to meet, socialise and engage with others in community.

The Youth Hub within the PCYC is a space where older kids can be supervised and hang out safely. They can play table tennis, do homework, watch videos, and interact with each other.

A range of new equipment has also been purchased for the Junior Gymnastics Centre within the PCYC – which includes quite an extensive list of equipment as the centre caters for children from 18 months of age.

“The PCYC is a not for profit and must fundraise to keep the doors open so that we can continue to serve our community. This would be very difficult without the generosity of businesses such as the Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank branches.” Commented Peter Kirkwood – president Hornsby Ku-ring-gai PCYC.

Conducting programs such as the Community Grants Program gives all of us at The Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank branches insight into the astounding amount of work being driven by community groups within our local area.

These groups rely on donations from members of the public and businesses like ours.

Switch your banking – and help us to help the community.

By making a simple switch in your banking to Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank branches, you enable us to continue our mission of giving back to the local community.

If you do one thing to help the community this week – encourage your family and friends to bank with Bendigo and help your local community to continue the great work.
