Moving the Focus Off the Pitch
On a standard Saturday morning, they would be sizing each other up on the soccer pitch – but when the call was put out to our network of local football clubs – they united for a greater cause.
Six of our local football clubs have been working together with the Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank branches to collect and donate used football boots, goalie gloves and soccer balls for less fortunate communities overseas. This donation drive was run under the guidance of not-for-profit organisation -Their Beautiful Game.
“It’s been great to see collaboration between ourselves, Bendigo Bank and local football clubs all working to make this happen! The donations will make a simple yet very effective social impact in the communities they go to” commented David Oswell –Director, Their Beautiful Game.
In all, 90 pairs of boots, 30 balls and full uniforms for 2 teams of 15 were the result of the combined efforts from Lindfield FC, St Ives FC, West Pymble FC, Kissing Point FC, Turramurra United FC and North Turramurra FC. The uniforms have already begun their long journey to a needy club in Ghana, whilst the remaining balls and boots will be distributed to a range of football projects in other communities in Ghana, India and Iraq, as well as supporting Indigenous, Refugee and Homeless footballers here in Australia.
“Businesses and organisations like The Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank branches supporting our work helps to emphasise the importance of community and ensures that projects like these can happen” continued Dave.
For the team at the TLCB, bringing together local organisations with the common goal of helping another community in need, is what it’s all about.
